"Closed loop system" November 2011

Afterthe harvest(September 16^th 2011), we focused on:

1.working the soil to give movement, air and improve drainage.
2.nourishing the soil and plants with the manure produced by our Maremma ‘s cows

3. Cover crops of barley, broad beans and clover which are planted in

alternating vine rows to contribute to the organic richness of the soil.

We adopted a system in which the soil’s fertilityis maintained through  

an internal recycling of organic material. Organic compost, produced by sheep and cows

born and raised on our farm; fed hay and grains produced exclusively  at Poggio Foco,

are used as fertilizer, without the integration of synthetic products.
